ARTIST STATMENT

As an individual who has been in the business of making games for the past five and half years, I have had the chance to work on many exciting projects. As a designer and passionate gamer, I strive to create games that push the boundaries of what has come before. I am often drawn to development environment of the unity engine due to its ease of use and the fact that we type in code. I find the process of typing out code in C# to be very rewarding since I feel more connected to the process compared to the blueprint system that unreal has.  However, I also feel that some projects are more geared to Unreal Engine. When it comes to the choice of engine it really comes down to the perspective that the game is. If the project is a 3d project I usually go with Unreal and if a project is 2d I go with unity.

As for the perspective of games that I make, I find that I enjoy the process of creating 2d games over 3d games. 3d games are great and all but it involves more thought to be put into them and it’s easy to feel like your retracing someone else’s step. As for 2d games I find the subtraction of the third dimension to be very liberating because it gives you the ability to experiment more. When creating 2d games, I often try to look at the 3d games that I enjoy playing and think about how it would it looks as 2d game. For the rare occasions that I worked on 3d games I try to look at games that put a key focus on the gameplay. I often find myself looking at games where movement plays a major role in the design of the game. I also prefer to go in with the philosophy that less is more when it comes to making 3d games. I would rather have the focus be one a few mechanics than trying to do everything at once.
